Just Another Free Stock Photo Resource List
Whether it’s for your own website or a client project, stock photos can be a great help to bring any design to life. Unless you own a camera and a pristine MacBook Pro along with a DotGrid sketchbook, you will probably find yourself trying to find something suitable on the internet.
Trying to find a high-res professional photo that won’t cost an arm and a leg can be quite difficult. We have put together a list below of some good websites we have been told about that offer some great high-resolution images with a range of different categories. Some resources like Im Free allow you to search specifically for a subject whereas some like LifeOfPix accept submissions.

Unsplash homepage
Great image resource, promises to deliver 10 new professional photos every 10 days and has a range of different photography styles. You can also share your own photos on the website.
Split Shire
Split Shire homepage
Great stock photo website made by Daniel Nanescu who gives his photos away for free. The overall aim of the website is to help designers out and to get his photography around. Needless to say Split Shire has grown into a giant library full of some truly amazing photos.
Flickr
Flickr homepage
One of the hidden gems of Flickr is its advanced search which allows you to search within Creative Commons-licensed content. You can narrow the search to include photos that you can modify, adapt, or build upon as well as photos to use commercially, all for free.
Picography
Picography homepage
Picography, is another great resource similar to Unsplash. Picography make things easier on your bandwidth as well by serving lower resolution photos on their website, but allow you to download the full sized photo by clicking on each image.
Photo Everywhere
Photo Everywhere homepage
Photo Everywhere has a impressive collection of location based photos that are completely free to use. Attribution is however required in the form of a link. Linking guidelines can be found on the Crediting Us page.
IM FREE
Im Free homepage
ImFree goes one step further by organising everything into categories as well as offering a search bar. With hundreds of professional photos you’ll hopefully be spoilt for choice!
Life of Pix
Life of Pix homepage
Life of Pix offers free, high-resolution photography with no copyright restrictions at all for personal and commercial uses. You can also share your own photos on the website if you wish to do so.
Jay Mantri
Jay Mantri homepage
Jay Mantri posts seven new photos to his website each week that are free to use in any way you like, all he asks is that you “make magic” with them.
Gratisography
Gratisography homepage
Gratisography, made by the guys over at Bells Design, have put together a fantastic collection of free images for anyone to use. There isn’t a huge collection just yet but definitely worth checking back every so often!
New Old Stock

Looking for something a little more vintage? Try New Old Stock for a giant range of film stock photos. New photos are uploaded daily so you shouldn’t have a problem finding something relevant to what you’re after.

Getrefe has a huge collection of free to use images and because there are multiple photographers submitting their work, the style varies a lot giving you a variety to choose from.
